Day 1. Welcome to Armenia
Arrival at the airport and transfer to the hotel. Free time to get acquainted with Yerevan.
Our guide picks you up in the hotel and you’ll begin an excursion round Yerevan. You will see the main tourist attractions in our capital: Visit to the museum- fortress of Erebuni (782 BC) and the Historical museum of Armenia. Then you will visit the Matenadaran, the Institute of ancient manuscripts, and Tsitsernakaberd, the Memorial complex of the victims of Genocide in 1915.
By visiting Yerevan brandy factory, and you will enjoy tasting some sorts of famous Armenian brandies.
In the evening you can just have a walk in the main square of Yerevan and admire a stunning view of multi-colored fountains, join a crowd in the North Avenue of the city which is constructed with modern buildings, or simply sit in a cozy cafe and enjoy a cup of tasteful coffee.
Day 2. Garni-Gegard (80 km)
Breakfast in the hotel. You will expect an interesting trip to Garni – the former summer residence of the Armenian Kings. You will watch the pagan temple of the Sun (1 century AD), which is considered an architectural monument of Hellenism era.
Then we will continue our trip to Geghard monastery complex (12-13th AD), a piece of the world cultural heritage of UNESCO. Several constructions of the monastery are cut in the monolithic rock. On our way back you will have an unforgettable show in which you will also be able to participate, interactive dances in Dzorakhbyur. Return to Yerevan. And another discovery of this day is an open–air fair of national craftsmen,Vernissage. There is a variety of souvenirs, so buy and take a piece of warm Armenia with you.
If you desire you can go to a concert or an opera performance.
Day 3. Yerevan – Gyumri – Khertvisi (Georgia)
Breakfast in the hotel. A transfer from your hotel to Gyumri, the second city of Armenia. On the way you will enjoy diversity of beautiful Armenian landscapes: mountains, valleys and blue sky.
In Gyumri you will have a small City-tour. Our guide will tell you history of this wonderful city and the people which survived after an awful earthquake. You will see new buildings and the main square of the city. We will continue our way to the north, to Ashotsk ,to the border of Armenia with Georgia.
After a customs procedure we will go to discover Georgia.
On the way to the fortress of Khertvisi we will have dinner and we will have a rest at a small, but cozy restaurant. It is a great opportunity to taste Georgian cuisine.
The Khertvisi fortress is located in Samtskhe-Javakheti region in the southern part of Georgia. It is one of the most ancient and the better remained fortresses of the Georgian feudal period.
Khertvisi fortress is located on the high rocky hill in the gorge on banks of of Kura and Paravani rivers. In 985 a church was constructed in the fortress. In the X—XI centuries Khertvisi was the center of the Samtskhe-Javakheti region.
Khertvisi as an architectural monument of Georgia. Together with the monastery complex of Vardzia Khertvisi is the candidate in the list of objects of the World heritage of UNESCO in Georgia.
Touch history and take unique photos.
The next sightseeing is the cave monastery complex of the XII—XIII centuries Vardzia, an outstanding monument of medieval Georgian architecture.
It was excavated from the slopes of the Erusheti Mountain on the left bank of the Mtkvari River. The main period of construction was the second half of the twelfth century. The caves stretch along the cliff for some five hundred metres and in up to nineteen tiers. The Church of the Dormition, dating to the 1180s during the golden age of Tamar and Rustaveli, has an important series of wall paintings.
During that time all rooms of the monastery were hidden in the rock, they were connected with the surface only through three underpasses . Now the cave monastery Vardzia is one of the main tourist sights of the southern Georgia.
After the excursion you will have accommodation in Vardzia or in Akhaltsikhe.
Day 4. Akhaltsikhe: Fortress Rabat-Yerevan
After a tasteful Georgian breakfast we are going to visit the Rabath fortress -complex. In 2012 Rabath was open for tourists after a great reconstruction. Here everything is combined: the ancient and modern architecture, religions and history of multicultural Georgia. You will see the restored fortresses, Akhmediye’s mosque, a mosque minaret, Christian churches and other sights of Rabath. The fortress occupies in the territory of 7 hectares. It is divided on Upper (historical) and Lower (modern) parts. In the history of the city of Akhaltsikhe the fortress is mentioned since the XII century as an old name of Lomsiya.
In the territory of the fortress there are restaurants and cafes where you can have dinner; there are little shops of souvenirs. Don’t miss wine tasting and buy wonderful Georgian wine for friends and relatives. After the excursion you will have a transfer to Yerevan. Overnight in Yerevan.
Day 5. Yerevan
Transfer to the airport for flight home.
